7:00 pm Acrylic Pouring Art Class/Demo by Laura Hanlin

Laura Hanlin is a self-taught artist raised in southwest Michigan. She enjoys painting and layering with all mediums to create symbolic abstract art on multi-purpose surfaces. Laura will join us to offer a live demonstration of a currently popular painting method called Acrylic Pouring. Participants are welcome to tune in to view the demonstration or have the option of purchasing supplies beforehand (listed in the confirmation) and participate live! Gather your friends and family and join us to learn a fun new method of painting that can be enjoyed at any age. All registration costs and donations go toward our charity event goal!

7:00 pm Concert and Q&A with Taylor Taylor.

With roots in Lansing, MI, Taylor moved to Los Angeles in 2018 to pursue her music career. She has been cultivating her musical style with a nylon string guitar, warm vocals, and lyric driven song writing, which reveal intelligence beyond her 22 years. Taylor’s music is featured on Pandora Radio and she has performed on bills with Jason Derulo and Little Big Town. On September 10th, Taylor is bringing her incredible talent to Small Talk’s Auction for Advocacy Center! Watch her perform some of her amazing music and then stick around for a Q&A with this up and coming artist!

7:00 pm Hope and Healing: A Conversation with Survivors

Every survivor’s voice deserves to be heard. It’s one of the most important parts of Small Talk’s mission. The brave women joining us for this panel discussion have used their platforms to spread awareness and empower others to heal. Jessica Smith, Trinea Gonczar, Larissa Boyce, Tabitha Mpamira-Kaguri, Priscilla Bordayo, and Margaret Hoelzer will all share their inspiring stories with us, proving that healing is possible after the trauma of abuse.

5:00 pm Tie-dye demonstration with Laura Hanlin

What better way to ring in the end of summer than with a tie dye party with the family? Tie dying is an easy, enjoyable activity for any age, kids and adults alike! Join us for a fun demonstration on a variety of tie dying techniques that will help to spark your creativity. Laura will demonstrate a handful of different tie-dying methods on a variety of fabrics (bed sheets, t-shirts and others) so that you can observe the process, then see the finished projects to help you choose which way to try. This art project demo will be kept to a shorter time frame to keep young viewers engaged. Participants receive a list of supplies needed for this project upon registration so you’re all ready to go after the demo.

7:00 pm Trivia Night hosted by Small Talk.

Gather your friends and come up with a “punny” team name and challenge others to an epic night of trivia hosted by Small Talk. This night’s theme is “Popular TV”! So, sit back in your favorite chair, turn on your favorite streaming service, and start your research!

7:00 pm Concert with Capital Green.

Capital Green is the award-winning A Cappella group from Michigan State University. We’re so excited to share a pre-record performance from the group that won the 2015 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Spend an evening with these amazing students and talented musicians while supporting Small Talk!

6:00 pm Unicorn Cupcake Decorating with Jessica Bouvier of Not So Bland Cakes

You asked for it, we’ve got it! Holt’s own Jessica Bouvier of Not So Bland Cakes will be creating unicorn cupcakes right before your eyes—and you get to create along with her! Jessica started out in your position, by watching video tutorials. She has taken what she learned and used her creativity and love for sweets to start her own business, Not So Bland Cakes, a word play on her last name growing up. Be sure to sign up for this event, what could be better than art you can eat? Besides unicorns, of course.

 


Day 13: September 16th
7:00 pm Q&A with filmmaker Brett Culp.

About 5 years ago Small Talk screened the “Legends of the Knight”, a film about real life heroes that were inspired by their love of Batman. We are honored to have the director of that film; Brett Culp join us for a Q&A for the Auction for Advocacy. Tune in for an engaging conversation with an acclaimed filmmaker and keynote speaker with a tremendous spirit and amazing heart.
